City officials passed a new law, by a 7-2 vote for the new restriction which follows an earlier ban on all local roads.
Now, ATVs and dirt bikes must be in a trailer or the back of a truck to have their gas tanks filled up, the outlet said.
Atlantic City gas station owners and workers can be fined at least $500 for violating the ordinance. Self-storage facility owners also can be fined the same amount if they fail to evict ATVs and dirt bikes from their property, the outlet said.
Atlantic City Police Chief James Sarkos said, “I think everyone realizes that these ATVs and motorcycles are causing a very dangerous situation on the roadways.”
Officials did not say how they are going to rein in small vehicles that are powered by electric batteries.
